MJW Selected to Protect First U.S. Navy Triton Surveillance Squadron // December 2017

The U.S. Navy is building a fleet of Triton unmanned aircraft to help protect U.S. forces around the world, and MJW is building the systems that will help protect the aircraft and support personnel at the facility that is being constructed at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville FL, the first of five Triton bases to be built around the world.

The prime contractor on the project, Hensel Phelps Construction of Orlando, FL is building a new hangar along with associated aircraft taxi, apron, servicing and ground traffic improvements. MJW is providing a complete turn-key, design-build services, including professional engineering, detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the fire protection, fire alarm and mass notification systems. The system includes large fire pumps pump housed in a custom-built structure constructed in MJW’s fabrication facility, under-ground and above-ground fire water distribution piping, multiple sprinkler systems, and a low-expansion foam system with low profile spray nozzles for advanced aircraft protection. The work also includes sophisticated flame-detection, fire alarm and  mass notification systems with interlocks to other critical building systems.

The project is slated for completion in 2019. Initial operational capability for the U.S. Navy Triton is expected the same year. The Northrop Grumman-built aircraft was chosen by the Navy to provide surveillance capabilities in support of anti-terrorism and force protection missions, Naval Station Mayport was selected in February 2017 to house the first Triton surveillance squadron.


MJW Provides Fire Alarm System for Paper Tissue Manufacturing Expansion // November 2017

MJW will apply its extensive experience with designing, installing and maintaining the industrial fire alarm systems in paper and tissue manufacturing environments to a major tissue manufacturing expansion at an East Coast facility.

MJW has performed previous work for this international manufacturer, which is now undertaking a plant expansion. MJW has provided a state-of-the-art fire detection, fire alarm and mass notification system in their existing facility and the new equipment and systems will tie seamlessly into the existing plant network. Phase one, including installation of HVAC duct detection, alarms and shutdown circuits, was performed in late summer of 2017, and the work on the expansion is slated to begin in 2018.

MJW is providing a complete turn-key, design-build services for this expansion project, including professional engineering, detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the fire alarm and mass notification systems. Close coordination with many construction teams involved in this expansion project will be required to meet the schedule and integrate the added tissue manufacturing capacity to the already substantial capacity this facility serves their consumers with throughout the SouthEast.
