MJW Bids on Design Project in Grand Bahamas
In 2023, MJW was invited by Grand Bahama Power Company to bid a turn-key flame detection system installation project in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. The scope of the project initially included just the installation of flame detectors, raceways, wiring and controllers for protection of two heavy fuel oil storage tanks, but it was determined early in the process that there was not sufficient information for the invited bidders to properly estimate and bid this project. Bidders were then requested to submit a price proposal for the design only, with the request to generate the required drawings and specifications so that all installation contractors could properly estimate and provide a bid the installation portion of this project.
MJW won that bid and was awarded the design contract, requiring the Project Manager and System Designer to travel to Grand Bahama Power for a site visit where they conducted 3D scanning of both HFO tanks where the detectors will need to be placed, operations building where the control panel will be located and surrounding areas where the raceways will be run to connect the system. This information was taken back to the Jacksonville design department team to finalize the design package consisting of installation drawings and fire detection and electrical equipment cut sheets and material specifications.
