MJW recently completed a critical project for RockTenn, one of North America’s leading manufacturers of corrugated and consumer packaging. RockTeen contracted MJW to handle the removal and transportation of a full paper machine in just six months to meet a critical deadline for its plant in Jacksonville.
The project included match marking and removing certain paper machine sections; removing and scrapping other sections; and loading and transporting the saved sections on MJW trucks.
The project required the use of large rigging and machine-moving equipment, skilled tradesman and several large gang boxes of hand and power tools. To safely remove and load the machine, MJW mobilized equipment that included a 50-ton crane, three large forklifts, man lifts, machine-moving trailers, and storage trailers. The handpicked team included 18 of the company’s best tradesmen, a general foremen and a superintendent. MJW calculated the weight of each section being removed and determined the lifting points and method of removal from the building. Once the machine sections were outside the building, the team planned the transportation, including the load configuration and permitting requirements.
Safety was a major focus of RockTenn when choosing MJW as its partner. The project was finished with zero injuries and zero near misses. In addition, the work was completed in five and a half months, well within the plant’s deadline.
