Rayonier Fernandina Beach Engages MJW for Quick-Turnaround Project

Concrete Deep Foundations and Pilings General Contracting/Construction Management

In late September of 2023, MJW was approached by its longtime partner Rayonier Performance Fibers in Fernandina Beach, Florida, regarding the installation of a truck dump manufactured by Phelps Industries.

The project’s initial phase included demolition of the existing truck dump along with wooden piling foundation and electrical services. Next came excavation for the truck dump and ramp foundations and installation of 36ea 14x73 H-piles driven to a depth of 70 feet, a job which MJW subcontracted to American Deep Foundation.

The third phase of the project involved the forming and placing concrete for the truck dump and ramp pier caps, foundations and walls. This portion of the project consisted of multiple pours of over 800 cubic yards of concrete. The project’s fourth project phase was the installation of the truck dump, with a gross weight of over 70,000 pounds and a lifting capacity of 184,000 pounds. MJW partnered with Sterett Crane & Rigging to load the truck dump on a trailer in order to move the truck dump to the install location where the truck dump was successfully set on the new foundation.

The final project phase was the installation the new hydraulic skid, hydraulic skid structure, hydraulic piping and electrical components. Though this was a complex project with a tight turnaround, MJW was successful in overcoming all obstacles and completing the project safely, on time, and under budget.
